What is Juice Plus+ Used for?

A question we get asked a lot at Juice Plus™ is: “What is Juice Plus+ used for?” The short answer is that Juice Plus+ Fruit, Vegetable and Berry capsules provide juice concentrates of over 30 different fruits, vegetables, and berries — along with other plant ingredients — to help you bridge the gap between what you should eat and what you do eat, every day. But Juice Plus+  Fruit, Vegetable and Berry capsules are also supported by independent clinical research, demonstrating multiple health benefits. We’ll cover those benefits in detail in this article. But first — why is adding extra fruit and vegetable nutrition to your diet a good idea?

The Goodness of Fruits and Vegetables

It’s no secret that fruit and vegetables are some of the healthiest foods you can eat, conferring health benefits to various systems of your body. That’s why you often hear the advice to “eat the rainbow” (meaning to eat a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables) or to cover half your plate with fruit and veggies at every meal.

At Juice Plus+, we’re big fans of fruits and vegetables, and we think you should be eating as many servings of these nutritional powerhouses as possible! But we also recognize that sometimes life gets in the way of your best intentions. Many of us are working and/or parenting and/or caring for an aging parent and/or going to school. It can be tough to get those 5-9 recommended servings of fruits and vegetables daily. That’s where Juice Plus+ comes in.

Juice Plus+ Fruit, Vegetable and Berry capsules are not meant as a substitute for eating produce. However, they can increase your intake of the vitamins, antioxidants, and other plant-based nutrients.

Clinically Researched Benefits

It’s that concentration of plant-based nutrients that makes Juice Plus+ Fruit, Vegetable and Berry capsules so powerful. In fact, we can unequivocally say that Juice Plus+ is the most thoroughly researched nutritional product of its kind. Juice Plus+ Fruit, Vegetable and Berry capsules have been studied by researchers at leading hospitals and universities around the world and have been the subject of more than 40 peer-reviewed published scientific papers. This body of research shows that Juice Plus+ capsules impart a wide range of health benefits.

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Immunity

Your immune system is responsible for keeping you from harm. It does this by distinguishing between “self” and “not self.” Anything that is identified as “not self” is immediately targeted through a complex system involving white blood cells, antibodies, and chemical messengers.

Most fruits and vegetables are endowed with immune-supporting vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. It’s one of their superpowers. And since Juice Plus+ Fruit, Vegetable and Berry capsules are made from fruit and vegetable concentrates, as well as other plant ingredients, immune support is one of their superpowers too.

Juice Plus+ capsule products have been the subject of four different studies on immunity conducted on four different populations: elderly adults, young law school students, healthcare professionals with direct patient contact, and athletic men. Combined results from these studies show that Juice Plus+ capsules support the function of the immune system.1,2,3,4

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Cardiovascular Health

Your cardiovascular system is made up of your heart and a network of blood vessels whose job is to transport life-giving blood to every cell of your body. That’s why maintaining heart health is crucial to your overall well-being. There are many lifestyle factors associated with optimal cardiovascular wellness. These include not smoking, getting exercise most days of the week, and increasing your fruit and vegetable consumption.

Combined results of multiple studies show Juice Plus+ capsules help to maintain levels of homocysteine (a biomarker for cardiovascular health), blood pressure, and total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol that are already within a healthy range.5,6,7,8 Juice Plus+ capsules have also been found to support the normal, healthy elasticity of the arteries and to blunt the effect of a high-fat meal on vasodilation.9,10

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Metabolic Health

Metabolic health is defined by five key characteristics: blood pressure, blood sugar levels, percentage of abdominal fat, cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels.

Juice Plus+ capsules support metabolic health in children and adults. Two studies in overweight prepubescent boys show that Juice Plus+ capsules support the body’s ability to use insulin effectively and help improve body composition by reducing abdominal fat.11,12 Research has found Juice Plus+ capsules also support healthy body composition in adults by increasing lean body mass.13 And as mentioned in the Cardiovascular Health section above, Juice Plus+ capsules have been found to help maintain total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and blood pressure levels that are already in the normal range.*14,15

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Inflammation

Your body is equipped with an inflammation response as part of your immune system. It’s a normal and important reaction to injury or threat, provided it turns off appropriately.

Fruit and vegetables are well known for helping to promote a healthy, balanced inflammation response. Combined results from several studies show that Juice Plus+ capsules decrease levels of several key biomarkers of inflammation.16,17,18,19 These studies were conducted in diverse populations, such as physically fit men and overweight men and women.

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Oxidative Stress and Redox Biology

Each one of your cells is bombarded by approximately 10,000 free radical “hits” per day. As long as your body has enough antioxidants to neutralize these free radicals, everything is fine. When your body’s antioxidant capacity is overwhelmed by free radicals, however, it enters a state of oxidative stress.

Luckily, fruit and vegetables are full of antioxidants, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, beta carotene and polyphenols — all of which help counter oxidative stress. That’s one of the reasons they’re so good for you!

Numerous clinical studies have shown increased levels of key antioxidants in the bloodstream after taking Juice Plus+ capsules, which allows your body to protect lipids and protein from oxidation.20,21,22 These antioxidants have been shown to help reduce oxidative stress in a wide variety of people, such as police officers, young adults, overweight women and heavy smokers.23,24,25,26

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Cognitive Function

Everyone — from college students to retirees — wants to maximize brain power, whether it’s to focus at school, perform well at work, or simply remember where they put their keys.

A 16-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 108 healthy young adults found Juice Plus+ capsules improve key cognitive processes, including working memory, selective attention, processing speed, and executive function.27

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Microbiome Health

There’s a whole, unseen world inside you. This world — your microbiome — consists of the microbes that live in your body, both good and bad. When you have a thriving community of beneficial microbes, you enjoy better gut health and an array of other health benefits.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 57 overweight pre-menopausal women investigated the effect of taking Juice Plus+ capsules — both alone and in combination with Complete by Juice Plus+ shakes — on the gut microbiome and digestive health.28 The first phase of the study found that Juice Plus+ capsules increase levels of butyrate, a compound that supports digestive health, and improve glucose clearance. The second phase of the study showed that the combination of Juice Plus+ capsules and Complete by Juice Plus+ shakes supports a healthy gut microbiome.

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: DNA and Nutrigenomics

DNA contains the genetic code that allows your body to create new cells and repair old ones. When exposed to oxidative stress, the structural integrity of your DNA can become compromised. Fortunately, fruit and vegetables contain antioxidants that can protect your DNA.

Combined results from several studies show that taking Juice Plus+ capsules can shield DNA from oxidation, supporting its structural integrity. This effect has been demonstrated in people of different ages, including the elderly, who are most vulnerable to changes in DNA.29,30,31 Research on how nutrition and genes interact has also shown that Juice Plus+ capsules change the expression of genes involved in lipid, glucose and energy metabolism in beneficial ways.*32

What is Juice Plus+ Used for: Skin Health

Microcirculation, or circulation in the smallest blood vessels, is important to skin health because it’s how oxygen and nutrients reach the skin.

A study of middle-aged women with normal to dry skin found that Juice Plus+ capsules improve microcirculation within the skin, as well as skin hydration, skin thickness, and skin density.*33 Another study echoed this finding about microcirculation, noting a significant increase in blood flow after 8 weeks.*34

What is Juice Plus+ Used For: Lung Function

Strong lungs are necessary to take in the oxygen your body needs. Exercising, quitting smoking and staying up to date with vaccinations are smart ways to protect your lungs. So is — you guessed it — upping your fruit and vegetable intake!35

A study of 75 smokers found that Juice Plus+ capsules support several parameters of healthy lung function, including forced expiratory flow and diffusion capacity.36 These parameters measure the flow and volume of air entering and exiting the lungs. (Of course, as the researchers noted, the best way for smokers to improve lung function is to quit, and that’s what we recommend, too.)

So the next time you open a bottle of Juice Plus+, you can feel good knowing you’re making One Simple Change — with a whole lot of benefits. Experience the difference fruit and vegetable juice concentrates can make!
